FED: Prawn trawlers face $1 million fine

SYDNEY, Jan 13 AAP - Illegal prawn trawlers in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park will be
slugged with $1 million fines under tough new measures announced by the federal government
today.

Federal Environment Minister Robert Hill, releasing a CSIRO report on illegal prawn fishing
in the world-heritage listed area, said the maximum fine for illegal prawning in the park
would be increased from $10,000 to $1 million.
