NSW: Eight hour clean up after acid spill
Firefighters spent eight hours cleaning up an acid spill overnight, after a truck careered
off the road near Yass, south-west of Sydney.
A spokesman for the fire brigade said the truck, carrying chemicals including 4,500
litres of nitric acid, ran off the Hume Highway south of Yass about 10 pm last night.
Firefighters wearing protective clothing had to neutralise nitric acid from six split drums.
They cleared the site with help from police, ambulance and Rural Fire Service personnel,
and the road was reopened by 6 am.
